Events to Look Out For!
With VEO and beyond, there are a lot of cool events coming up that you should check out!
Virginia Entrepreneurship Organization (VEO) is the community for ambitious student builders at the University of Virginia. At our core, we support students who are working on side projects and startups — those who are looking to build their first version of their product and onwards.
Our meetings involve:
Startup workshops to fine-tune your ideas or brainstorm new ones
Listening to experienced entrepreneurs speak about their startups and journeys
Getting answers to any questions you have about your projects
“Ask Me Anything” Session with Doug Garland tomorrow at 5 p.m. at the Engineering School! Read the message from him:
"Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do... Don't settle."
That's what Steve Jobs said in his famous 2005 Stanford commencement address. In my career, over half of which was spent in Silicon Valley, I certainly found that statement to be true.
Please join me tomorrow at 5pm at the Engineering School in an "Ask Me Anything (AMA)" session on the lessons I learned from Silicon Valley and a career spent riding the waves of innovation. We'll talk about the power of finding what you love, learning continuously, thinking big, identifying opportunities, taking risks, and becoming a leader.
We'll have pizza afterwards. There's also a bit about my background below and one more quote, this one by Audrey Hepburn, the famous actress, that I find inspirational:
"Nothing is impossible, the word itself says 'I'm possible.'"
Ken Seiff Information Session from The Blue Ridge Center! Read this message from them:
How will you convince venture capitalists to invest in your start-up? What are investors looking for in tech projects, and what do they see as red flags?
Join us one week from today, on Tuesday, October 3rd at 6:30pm in Monroe 124 as we host tech entrepreneur Ken Seiff as he answers those questions and more.
Seiff is the founder and head of Blockchange, an innovative investor in early-stage blockchain projects. Join to hear about his experiences and get a chance to put your questions to a VC pioneer.
As usual, we'll have free Mellow Mushroom pizza.
Fireside Chat with Alex Becker!
On Friday, October 6th, at 5 p.m., we will be hosting a Fireside Chat with Alex Becker! Becker is a SWE @ Imprint, a Former PM Intern at Microsoft, and the former VEO President.
More information on this event is to come but save the date, and we look forward to seeing you there!
